If you have got the chance to design your dream property then you will know how exciting this can be. You may feel as though you have the perfect chance to finally nail the best layout and that it is also possible for you to start fulfilling your dreams. That being said, if you don’t spend time on the planning stage, then everything could fall apart before you even get started. If you want to stop this from happening, then the only thing that you need to do is utilise this guide.

Start out Simple

You don’t need to have any kind of fancy software in order to begin making decisions about your custom home plan. In fact, the only thing that you need is a pencil and a piece of paper. You can then sketch out your ideas and brainstorm. It’s important that you make a list of features that you would like each room to have as well, so you can get a good idea of what you would like to have and what you wouldn’t. Even rough sketches can help your design team to truly understand what you want.

The Future

Do you want to have kids in the future? Maybe you have aging parents. Either way, you need to make sure that you accommodate all of this in your different scenarios. If you have returning students from college, then you will need to think about this as well. If you are hoping to transition from your desk job to one that you can work from home, then this will also be a consideration.  If you want to have kids, then you’ll need to leave room for a nursery. Remember that you can always find nursery cots from Cuckooland if you need to get some potential measurements for the room.

Showcase the Lot

If you are buying a plot of land then make sure that you showcase the lot. You need to think about the topography, the size and other great features. This will make it easier than ever for your family members to see Mother Nature in action. If you have a brook that runs through your property, then it may be a good idea for you to put the bedrooms close to the water as this will help you to enjoy the wonderful sound of the water while you sleep.

Prioritise the Features

When you have your ideas recorded in a very rough format, you then need to begin prioritising the features for your new home. At the end of the day, the design for a custom home can easily go beyond your budget if you don’t take the time to plan everything out. If you want to get around this then you need to make sure that you focus on the important elements first so everything else can come after. If you can do this, then you will soon find that you never end up compromising on the things that truly matter to you.
